Brief History of the N Herts Sunderland Supporters Club
The NHSSC was originally started in Baldock when local publican, Dave Bussey, got together with George Church over a jar and decided to call a few other local supporters to a meeting, held early December 1991. Brian Duncan being the first elected chairman.
Numbers started to grow through the next few years as word got around by various means, reaching 50 early in 1994, eventually reaching a high of 160 during the 4 years of Premiership football (1999-2002) and currently standing at 120. During that time we have had members from all round the world.
The inaugural meeting was held in The Bulls Head in Baldock, moving on to Baldock Football Club in 1993 and then to the current home of the 4 Emblems, Letchworth in 1994.
The position of Chairman had passed from Brian Duncan to Dave Bussey, who then gave way to Graham Williams, Ray Chaytor, Graham Williams (for a second term), Colin Chandler and currently Bob Parkin.
Fund raising in the early years used varying means ie sweeps, fantasy leagues and a quiz, which is still held annually for the Charlie Hurley trophy.
The club entered a dart team in the local Hitchin League with limited success until amalgamating with the 4 Emblems team (which was about to fold) and is now challenging for honours every year.
Colin Dunn produced a newssheet in the early years, which quickly grew into a club magazine, The Review, which is circulated to all members.
